Jeff Yapp served as Viacom’s Executive Vice President of Program Enterprises, where he was responsible for leading MTV, VH1, CMT and Logo brands into new businesses and platforms. In just four years, he grew the division from $15 million to over $1.4 billion. He oversaw several development groups responsible for an extensive array of ventures and new content opportunities including movie studios, gaming, sports, home entertainment, consumer products, radio networks, publishing and business development.
Yapp initiated and completed a deal with Jerry Bruckheimer to establish a new game development studio to produce a new gaming IP.
Yapp also conceived and closed a deal with NBC Sports to establish a joint venture in action sports for MTV and the Dew Tour.
Jeff helped launch virtual worlds. Virtual Laguna Beach was inspired by MTV's hit reality show Laguna Beach. It recreated the show’s seaside town in a 3D environment where users could create avatars, interact with other fans, explore locations from the series, and participate in virtual events, mirroring the social life and culture depicted on the show. With this virtual world, it generated significant buzz for the reality show.
Jeff Yapp's team followed a similar model with Virtual MTV, offering a broader platform where users could explore virtual spaces tied to multiple MTV shows, including The Hills and Pimp My Ride. The platform enabled fans to attend virtual concerts, socialize, and interact with content in an engaging digital environment. Jeff’s team received an Emmy for its achievements in the 3-D avatar-based virtual worlds, with the launch of Virtual Laguna Beach and Virtual Hills.
