Jeff Yapp bought the franchise rights to the last large PODS territory available in the United States, roughly 210 miles from Simi Valley to San Luis Obispo, one of the most logistically demanding markets in the entire system. He turned it into the most profitable PODS market in the country.
The brand rides on the driver
Jeff saw that the loudest statement the PODS brand makes is its drivers, how they show up, how they dress, how they drive. So he rethought recruiting and compensation from the ground up. He learned that accidents were what destroyed profitability, and made a counterintuitive call: pay fewer, better people more money. The result was the lowest turnover in the industry and the highest-paid workforce.
Give to get
Jeff believed in building a real presence in the community first, then bringing in a marketing agency to market that goodwill rather than buy attention cold. The advertising program he launched became the model for PODS national advertising.
The result
The most profitable PODS market in the country, consistently, built on driver quality, community presence, and a compensation model the rest of the system went on to adopt.
